Well it's been almost 2 months since I've been meal planning. Good news - it is saving us money! To be sure. It is saving me time too because I am not going to the grocery store 5 times in 7 days!
However, Sunday's suck.
Because that's the day I have to come up with a week's worth of menu items and GAH - it is not easy! I actually love to cook, but it is so hard to come up with a meal plan that everyone living here will actually eat. And planning on something that people who live here can eat when they are actually HERE is tough too - during the week eating together is a non-happening.
Mostly I've let myself become a short order cook. Which any mother alive will tell you was THE stupidest move EH-VAH! So what I need from you all is a few links to some amazing meals that will please everyone - we're chicken and meat eaters - kids love the pasta too.
oh - and good news - we're down to ONE brace face in the house now! Where will we spend that extra money?!?! Woot!

Bossy loves the big pots of stuff plan... like spaghetti and meatballs... in expensive and provides leftovers, especially if you throw some chicken in the sauce... and then the next night: sausage!
Everything is cheaper stretched over a $1 box of spaghetti.
We like lasagne and always get a few nights out of that. A whole roasted chicken does the same. In fact, I'm making one tomorrow so I can have chicken salad sandwiches the rest of the week for lunch :)
I try that! (go once a week) but it doesn't always work. I subscribe to a grocery plan-go to www.thegrocerygame.com it's free to try it, then it's $10 every 8 weeks. The idea is: you spend an hour or two cutting and organizing your coupons on Sunday, and the website tells you which ones to use because those items are also "on sale" that week. I've saved up to 50% on my grocery bill! It works for my family but you have to be careful you're not buying a lot of stuff you don't need "just because it's cheap". Unfortunately, Vons doubles coupons (for now) so that's where I go, but they're also more expensive than a lot of other grocery stores so I end up taking a trip to both Vons, and Stater Brothers and have to carry two different lists. Plus, we really love to use our local dairy so there's always an extra trip there too! And don't forget that there's stuff you just HAVE to buy at Costco. So for now yes I do save money but I'm short on time because all of this nonsense takes it all up!
