First, let me say that I've never read any of James Patterson's adult books, but I have heard from friends that they love his style. I also had not read the 2 previous books in the Maximum Ride series so I was a little worried that I wouldn't "get" Maximum Ride #3, Saving the World and Other Extreme Sports.
And that is precisely what happened. I didn't get it.
I had trouble visualizing the characters, had trouble believing that kids their age, bird-like or not, would be so sarcastic and flippant all the time. The sarcasm was, in my opinion, overused by the author. There was a lot of violence too, which, as I read it, seemed too "video-game" to me. What I mean is, the description of the "battles" were what you see on every shoot em up/beat em up kind of video game. Maybe there is a reason for this? Is there already a video game for this series? One on the way? I wouldn't be surprised.
Patterson's use of blogging in the book, while it did not appeal to me, is probably successful as a means to market his series to his target audience, so nicely done, Mr. Patterson! And I did like the idea that Patterson, through his fiction, was appealing to the younger generation to take care of this world...that they have the means to make a difference. A book with a postive underlying message is always a good thing!
So for me, Maximum Ride was a Minimum Thrill. I'll still offer it to both my tween and pre-teen and post their review if they would like to share!

Not too long ago I had heard that Matthew McConaughey was working himself up for a new movie
